Children from the Early Years Wrens and Robins classes at St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Barnard Castle enjoyed an exciting visit to the local Fire Station this week as part of their 'People Who Help Us' topic.
The visit gave pupils the opportunity to find out more about the important work carried out by firefighters and how they help keep people safe in the community. As part of the experience, the children explored the fire engines, learned about the equipment used by the Fire Service and even had the chance to have a go with a fire hose.
The visit provided an excellent real-life link to the Early Years curriculum, helping to bring classroom learning to life in a fun and engaging way. Children asked questions, discovered how firefighters respond to emergencies and learned more about the people who help us every day.
The memorable experience sparked plenty of excitement and curiosity among the children, with some even wondering whether they might become firefighters themselves in the future.
St Mary's Catholic Primary School would like to thank the Fire Station team for making the visit so enjoyable, inspiring and educational. The school greatly values opportunities like this that help enrich learning and strengthen links with the local community.
Families can look forward to seeing more photographs from the visit in their children's journals, where they can share in the exciting learning that took place.
